"We didn't have money when I was growing up, but I didn’t know it until fourth grade when my parents got us into a good school in a nice neighborhood in Phoenix, filled with families who did."

Give Magazine

Editor and Features Writer/Jan 2017-Present

Give is published twice a year by The Denver Foundation, Colorado's most established community foundation, with a distribution of 56,000 copies. My writing appears throughout every issue. Recent highlights include "The House The Love Built," about a family's journey to provide a fully accessible home for their daughter, and "The People in the Neighborhood," about how "community navigators" solve problems and connect people in Denver's underserved neighborhoods.

Music Editor and Staff Writer/July 1999-August 2005

I've written about 800 pieces for Westword over the past 20 years. If you are really super curious, you can search for my name, keeping in mind I wrote everything from cover stories to concert blurbs. I have many favorites but I probably hear the most about this profile of Phillip Hamon, Jr., aka Phil the Fan, a legendary Denver music fan and light man. RIP, Phil. You were a true original. Westword is part of the Voice Media Group, but it has had the same editor since its founding nearly 40 years ago. An inexorable part of Denver's cultural life and forever dear to my heart.
